Station DC is a premier innovation hub and members’ club located in the heart of the Union Market District. Designed as a convening space for leaders across business, policy, technology, and real estate, Station DC offers a modern, industrial-inspired setting ideal for strategic dialogue and curated professional gatherings.

Its flexible event spaces, mission-driven community, and location within one of the city’s most active redevelopment zones make it a fitting backdrop for conversations centered on industrial real estate and urban transformation.

ABOUT UNION MARKET: HISTORY & URBAN RENEWAL

The Union Market District is rooted in Washington, D.C.’s industrial and wholesale history. Its origins trace back to Centre Market (1871)—once one of the largest public markets in the country. When Centre Market was demolished in 1931 to make way for the National Archives, many vendors relocated northeast, forming the Union Terminal Market, which became a critical regional food distribution hub.

In its modern form, Union Market occupies a 1967 warehouse structure, later redeveloped and reopened in 2012 as a curated food hall of approximately 20,000 square feet, serving as the catalyst for broader neighborhood reinvestment.

Today, the Union Market District spans roughly 45 acres of formerly industrial land that has undergone significant rezoning and redevelopment. According to the Urban Land Institute, the area supports up to 8 million square feet of mixed-use development, including residential, office, retail, hospitality, and experiential uses. The district has attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in private investment, transforming it into one of Washington, D.C.’s most economically productive and culturally relevant neighborhoods.

Union Market now draws millions of visitors annually, supports a growing base of employers and residents, and stands as a national example of how industrial heritage can be successfully repurposed through thoughtful urban renewal—making it an especially relevant setting for Industrial Plots & Quality Talks.
